I’m starting to gravitate towards single eye shadows, but they are increasingly difficult to come by. So, many shades end up going to waste because of a need to have a palette fit every skin tone. I wouldn’t buy a palette of foundations with a color for every skin tone, so why should I buy an eye shadow palette that fits everyone?
“Hitting 10 pan[s]” is often a goal for people before buying more makeup, but shouldn’t the person’s goal be to just use every shade in a palette? To avoid expiring multiple palettes at once that have barely been used? It should be, but it’s usually not possible because half the colors are unusable for them.
It is my opinion that if a brand feels they have to come out with a palette, they should make it limited edition, then come out with individual shades from the palette, so people can repurchase the shades they like in a bigger size OR make their palettes a sampler or preview of single eye shadows they are making available. I don’t know how many times I have heard YouTubers talk about how they are reluctant to use a product because it’s discontinued. Well, what is the point of having it then if you’re not going to use it?
Brands should listen to their customers and ask them what colors they want the most from an upcoming collection and then purchase accordingly. Palettes are money grabs by the company plain and simple, and I fall for it just as much as the next person. But as the customer, I shouldn’t have to de-pot the shadows I like, so I can make sure the other shadows are used by someone else.
A palette should be an option, not a requirement.
